Preserved are historic earthworks, cannon emplacements and monuments. Kennesaw NBP interprets the historic events where over 5,350 soldiers were killed in the battle fought here from June 19, 1864 through July 2, 1864.

The Birth Home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., may be visited only with a park ranger led tour. The tours are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Register for the tour at the National Park Service Visitor Center in person upon arrival to the park.

Home to several thousand Native Americans between 1000 A.D. to 1550 A.D., this 54-acre site contains six earthen mounds, a plaza, village area, borrow pits and defensive ditch. This is the most intact Mississippian Culture site in the Southeastern United States.

Pickett's Mill is one of the best preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation. Visitors can travel roads used by Federal and Confederate troops, see earthworks constructed by these men, and walk through the same ravine where hundreds died.

See this native Georgia marble structure that was built in the early 1900’s. Old jail cells that line the front of the courthouse building looked out on the open plaza and the rear of the marble eagles. This led to a popular Cherokee County euphemism for incarceration: A person was not "in jail," but "behind the eagles."

Cherokee County, located along Georgia's gold belt, figured prominently in the gold rush of the 1830's and 40's. Restored rock barn, once home to world class race horses, is now headquarters of the Cherokee County Historical Society. Open house on Sunday, May 15th, 10am–4pm with music provided by the Cherokee Community Chorale. Enjoy lemonade and old fashioned tea cakes while browsing the historic exhibits.
